Description

A pair of lacquered and gilded wooden palmettoes with wrought and gilded iron handles, resting on an expressive ivory lacquered square base that supports a turned and carved ribbed and veined vase. The finish was achieved by alternating ivory lacquer and delicate gold gilding on a red ground. At the top was probably a large circular recess in which a tin flower vase was placed. The two iron handles have scrolls at the top and lovely curls at the bottom. The state of preservation is good, consistent with dating back to the late 1700s.They come from northern Italy.

Palms are flower vases that were placed on altars as decoration; they often have less depth and are not decorated at the back, as they are placed against the walls in side altars. This is different for the main altars, where they were made in the round. Various materials were used, mainly wood, copper or brass sheeting, variously embossed or transformed into tiles, but also cast bronze. Palms, a symbol of the victory of Christianity, gave way to artificial flowers made of various materials such as fabric, sheet metal and beads. They are perfect as decoration for any interior, especially as lamp bases.

Beautiful antique furniture and furnishing accessories, can be a great idea for furnishing our interiors. Today there are more and more lovers of good quality old products that have a certain characteristic and soul. This is a nod to history, the creation and design of traditional and timeless furniture. There are many different styles in antique furniture, each with its own distinctive characteristics.

There are many different styles that characterise antique furniture, but we can highlight a few of the most important. Eclecticism furniture is the 19th century, which includes the lovingly reigned Biedermeier style. Its variations in the early years of this century include Neo-Gothic antique furniture, Gothic, Rococo, Louis Philippe style and finally English Victorian style. Towards the end of the century, these styles transition into the pseudo styles of classicism, renaissance and baroque.

Empire style furniture is the period between the late 18th and early 19th century. It all stemmed from the reign of Napoleon. There, considerable resemblance and reference to Roman and Greek ornamentation was imposed.

Classical furniture is the Louis XVI style, which also has strong references to ancient architecture. Interesting and noteworthy are all antique products in the Rococo and Louis XV styles. Next is the Baroque, whose name comes from the Portuguese barocco - which translated is irregularly developed pearl. These were highly representative pieces of furniture that were literally meant to drip with glitter and play a significant role in luxury. Exceptional, selectively used materials were used to further emphasise the lofty tone of these products.

Today we can observe how much influence the Baroque style has just had on today's classic furniture, which is designed with a strong resemblance to the former era. Also a significant style is the Renaissance. Which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries and also made a big impact on the art of furniture making. The Renaissance style was quite heavy and massive. Brown stains were used, as well as cornices, strong plinths and bas-reliefs. It can certainly be said that these were quite specific, but it gave a lot of new possibilities such as the construction of a sideboard or box furniture in general. Here, too, there was an interest in mythology and ancient times, so supports or legs took animal forms.

Lion's paws, eagle's heads - this is a common sight precisely in the Renaissance style. Currently, quite a few world brands reproduce furniture made in this way, taking examples from Italian or French artists. This is a sign of admiration and care for the history of the most beautiful Renaissance antiques. It is important to remember that furniture making was viewed differently in each country, so each style in a particular country had its own distinct character. This is very important, especially when searching for the right luxury antique for your interior.

The most important thing about stylish antique furniture is originality. And this is ultimately important from the buyer's point of view, as there are many fakes circulating on the market. The Luxury Products brand provides a document confirming the conformity of the product with the actual description and photo. We have art experts, historians and experts from all over the world at your disposal.
