The Pininfarina writing instruments segment is aptly named Pininfarina Segno, from the Italian word meaning "sign". These exceptional, handcrafted, ingenious instruments are inspired by Italian artistic heritage.
Pininfarina SPACE is a writing tool designed for use in space. Made entirely of magnesium, an ultra-light material with high mechanical properties, Pininfarina Space was presented to the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) during the last V.I.T.A. mission. The astronauts, including Italian Paolo Nespoli, had the opportunity to use it in microgravity conditions, where ordinary pens cannot write.
The metal alloy from which the tip is forged, Ethergraf®, writes through oxidation, without the need for graphite or ink, making it an ideal solution for the environmental conditions on space stations, where graphite micro-particles from an ordinary pencil are very dangerous for the filtration system.
