In this wonderful view of the Bay of Naples, the painter E. Ferrante was inspired by the masters of the Posillipo school, including Antonio Pitloo and Giacinto Gigante, who used the "harbour" scene as a pretext to depict an idyllic landscape. The light of the setting sun envelops everything; the sea is calm, and the city seems to rest in the Bay, under the watchful eye of the gentle volcano. In short, the Posillipo school represents one of the highest moments of Italian Romanticism.
