• Each iluminated elegant globe is handcrafted with precision in German manufacture. The maps are produced by using the offset printing method on special paper that impresses with brilliant colors and high details. Due to the high resolution, it is almost impossible to notice the grid point with the human eye.
• The COLUMBUS DUO dual map system was already patented in the fifties. This patent allowed COLUMBUS to show the world in 2 different maps on just one globe - as first dual map system ever.
• The next consequent step was the vacuum formed dual map Duplex.
• The concept of the DUO system is based on the theory of colours as well as their colour mixing.
• The non-illuminated map of the COLUMBUS DUO globe shows the political situation of the world. If you turn on the light, the inside printed colours of the globe are mixed together with colours printed on the outside of the globe.
• This causes a new map for the human eye - the physical world on our DUO globe.

Duplex - illuminated physical map / non illuminated political map

With the innovative dual map technology, you can view political borders in contrasting colors when the globe is turned off, and physical features when the light is switched on. An unparalleled level of detail is put into the cartography work making this an ideal reference globe. The 16 layers printing that make up the map and its place-names are printed on special durable material that will never wear off from the acrylic ball. Each globe comes with a booklet.

The political map (non-illuminated globe), informs about the borders between the different states on earth using contrasting but harmonious colors. The physical map (illuminated globe) shows the physical environment complete with its mountainous regions, low- and high-lands, deserts and ocean-depths in a finely graduated color grading scheme.
