Description
The painting by Salvatore Marinelli is a still life of peaches, black and white grapes along with a pear, melon, and an ear, all set against a dark baroque background and a simple table. The objects and light are intensely studied and painted with a wonderful delicacy of fruit variety. Marinelli is inspired by one of the many works of Adriaen Coorte, a Dutch painter of the Golden Age, specialising in "tabletop still lifes" with flowers and fruits illuminated from above, with the dark background typical of still lifes from the turn of the century.
