A unique Souverän 800 Black-Green EF fountain pen

The flagship model of Pelikan pens – model 400 – was created in 1950. Its elegant black and green stripes are recognised worldwide as a symbol of style and status. Hence, in 1980, this series was named “Souverän”, which means sovereign or ruler in German. Despite many years of existence and subsequent improvements made to the design, the basic mechanism remains unchanged. The preparation of the resin intended for the production of the black and green barrel is a time-consuming process lasting months. The other components of the pen are prepared with the utmost precision, so that when all are combined, the transition between materials is imperceptible. The pen is topped with a cap featuring the classic pelican beak, placed on the pen like the crown of a true ruler.

The origins of the Pelikan company trace back to chemist Carl Hornemann, who on 28 April 1838 presented his clients with an offer for oil paints, watercolours, and the so-called Pelikan archive – it was the foundation of the company’s production line, from which the globally renowned brand developed. The German manufacturer specialises in producing luxury writing instruments.

Decades of experience, specially trained staff, and the highest attention to detail at every stage of the production process ensure that each product is solidly made and unique. Depending on the model, the nibs are made from 14 or 18-carat gold. Additionally, they are sometimes rhodium-plated to achieve a silver sheen. The decoration on the nib is typical for each model.
