Description
The armadillo, this animal is well known for the strength and resilience of its armour, which serves as a shield and protection for the softest and most delicate part of its belly. From the distinctive features of this animal, complemented by a touch of elegance and the highest quality that always distinguishes the Company, Altek Italia Design draws inspiration for this collection of seating. A solid structure made of cast aluminium and steel combined with a strong wooden shell forms the "skeleton" of the product, while the soft upholstery and genuine Italian leather covering reveal its more refined side. Armadillo. The Armadillo collection was designed by Rainer Bachschmid. Armadillo, nature that becomes elegance.
1920
This story begins when founder Giuseppe Baggio and his son Vittorio Senior, who had already been producing wooden shoes and clogs since 1880, started manufacturing wooden chairs with handmade straw seats in their artisan workshop in Thiene (Vicenza).
1930
Vittorio Baggio Senior leaves the shoe production to his brothers and focuses on the production of wooden chairs. He designs and produces products, creating new, original and innovative shapes and decorations.
1940
The workshop becomes the company "Baggio Vittorio & Figli" when Vittorio Senior's sons also join the company, and in 1945 he is one of the founding members of the Industrial Association in Vicenza. During these years, Vittorio Baggio Senior created the first wooden kneeling chair, which was to be used in most Italian churches in the following years.
1950
The company created and patented the first adjustable deckchair called "Poltrona Delizia". The deckchair was designed by Vittorio Baggio Junior, who had just started working in his father's company.
1960
Vittorio Baggio Junior, along with his brother Carlo and sister Maria, founded the company "Baggio" and began producing metal chairs, which they soon exported abroad.
1970
Eventually, the production of wooden chairs ceases, and the Company focuses on the production of steel and aluminium, creating collections for the home, office, and contract sectors.
1980
The company reaches maximum expansion and becomes a leader in the Italian market with 5 factories, 500 employees, and a daily production of 7,000 pieces of chairs, tables, and accessories, exported worldwide and sold by major distributors such as IKEA and SEARS United States and Canada.
1990
Franco and Silvia Baggio began collaborating with their father Vittorio Junior and soon established a new company with the registered trademark Altek®, creating a line of patented items, unique pieces with refined design, in collaboration with several prestigious Italian and European designers.
2000
The Altek® brand becomes a point of reference for architects and interior designers from around the world and wins important awards such as the "Good Design" in the USA for the Vertigo line designed by Zurich and the "IDot" for the Graal table and Kore chair designed by Baggio Victor. The Vertigo line becomes part of the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago.
2010
The Altek® brand changes its name to "Altek Italia Design" and adopts a new philosophy of research and development, based on the concept of "Islands", a new collection characterised by modularity, innovation, and ecological sustainability. Altek inaugurates the COMPANY MUSEUM, where the company tells its story through a collection of original products that characterise each decade from the 1920s. Many and continuous investments are made in research, and important collections are created for furnishing airport areas, private and public sector waiting rooms, offices, hotels, and universities. Prestigious international awards are won, such as the "Grands Prix du Design" 12th Edition in Canada, for the contract and institutional sector, and selection as a finalist for the Mixology Awards 2018 and 2019 in England, with the AirWave collection designed by Topo Design.
2020
Altek Italia Design has just begun a new decade, looking to the future with innovative ideas and projects, aware of the importance and responsibility that comes with having a century-long history.
