Description

The unparalleled musical passion of Italians has resulted in a great love for opera. It is the genre closest to their hearts, as it embodies values such as revealing and expressing the deepest hidden and experienced emotions. Joy, liveliness, expressiveness.
Opera is the soul of Italy encapsulated in sound.
To celebrate the most exquisite of art forms - Opera, Montegrappa decided to honor this indisputable fact with the “Emozioni di Musica” collection. Gioachino Rossini's “The Barber of Seville” is to opera connoisseurs what Miles Davis is to jazz lovers and Pink Floyd is to rock enthusiasts.
This legendary opera has been interpreted by the best voices of the last two centuries, with leading roles played by personalities such as Tito Gobbi, Beverley Sills, Plácido Domingo, Maria Callas, and many others.

To best capture the spirit of Rossini's work, Montegrappa decided to use the old method of die casting. The work on the pen begins with meticulous sculpting that lasts many months, allowing each piece to have a unique character, the result of one person's effort. To capture the beauty of details and the finesse of the sculpture, Montegrappa used precious metals. The forms are cast using a forgotten method with wax, and the final effect is achieved through the refinement by a master's hand.

Just like in theatrical decoration, the pen's body is adorned with a view of eighteenth-century Seville featuring the prominent Giralda bell tower and the Golden Tower.
Montegrappa's sculptor referred to the Moorish style of ancient buildings in Seville, which inspired the unusual shape of the barrel's end. The cap is decorated with scenes from the opera: Figaro holding a guitar in his hands, appearing near Don Bartholo's balcony, singing one of the most famous arias – “Largo al Factotum.” The upper part of the cap in the silver version of the fountain pen and rollerball pen is embellished with silver azulejo [a type of thin tiles used to create artistic mosaics], a material characteristic of Andalusia, which still adorns many of Seville's most famous buildings, and motifs borrowed from azulejo decorate the clip.
Giuseppe Aquila, president of Montegrappa, proudly emphasizes that in the silver version of the pen, individual parts of this noble metal have been decorated with a technique never before used. It was developed and perfected by Montegrappa's skilled craftsmen, giving the metal, through coloring, a shade of celluloid blue. This creates an impression of depth in the sculpture.

To present you with the starry sky from the first act of the opera, Montegrappa used the finest blue celluloid, with mother-of-pearl and sparkling strands.
The nib in the silver version of the fountain pen is decorated with white and yellow gold. Each pen is engraved with the window of Don Bartholo's house, from which Rosina listens to Count Almaviva's moving serenade.
The limited edition pen: “Invitation to The Barber of Seville” is packaged in a decorative box that evokes the shapes, colors, and scenes from the opera: the white of old Seville buildings, the famous colonnade of the Alcazar courtyard, with azulejo on many packages.
Once again, this remarkable manufactory captures our attention with an extraordinary writing instrument. This is another captivating fountain pen.
