Description

For the second pen in the "Icons" series, Montegrappa chose a figure who, through the art of film, embodied everything noble in martial arts. The Italian manufacturer pays tribute to a giant of culture, regardless of the field in which his achievements have reached global heights. The latest instrument in this series honours both the individual who ranks on every list of the strongest of the 20th century and the most influential personality, just like the magnificent history of Montegrappa. The combination of these two results in a commemorative pen of great significance, evoking many memories.

In doing so, it opened the West to the martial arts of the East, helping to create martial arts films outside Hong Kong; a genre that remains popular 37 years after his death. On the 70th anniversary of his birth, Montegrappa is pleased to pay tribute to the legendary Bruce Lee. Through his success in films, Lee sparked a sudden surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West in the 1970s. But he was more than a "kung fu" actor: he won over the Chinese audience as a role model, respecting Chinese culture, while his dedication to martial arts resulted in an individual style, named in the book "Jeet Kune Do" (The Way of the Intercepting Fist). In 1999, on the eve of the new millennium, Bruce Lee was hailed by "Time Magazine" as one of the hundred most influential people of the 20th century.

Montegrappa's choice of Bruce Lee as the model for the long-awaited interpretation of one of the most coveted pens is apt: The Dragon. Bruce Lee was known as "The Dragon" because he was born in the year and hour of the dragon in the Chinese horoscope. Furthermore, the year 2010, marking the 70th anniversary of his birth, is also the 15th anniversary of the introduction of the Dragon pen by Montegrappa in 1985.

In Chinese iconography, the Dragon holds special significance. It became a national symbol in 1912 - the same year Montegrappa began producing writing instruments. This limit from 1995 celebrated the meeting of two cultures: the East and the West. The fountain pen was born under the sign of the dragon, a fascinating symbolic figure, interpreted by the skilled hands of artist Federico Monti. The image of the dragon was brought to life on the body and cap of Montegrappa's creation, transforming the writing instrument into a work of art, inspired by myths and legends.

Montegrappa produced 1912 original pens to commemorate the year the company was founded. They were made from black celluloid and sterling silver. Only 100 fountain pens were issued in an 18K gold version. The fountain pen featured a piston filling system and was available in 6 nib thicknesses. These pens are rarely found - exclusively in collectors' circles.

Recalling the original, the new pen differs from the 1995 model in the design of the clip, colour, details of the Dragon's tail on the body, nib thicknesses, and the top of the cap. The limited edition "The Dragon 2010 Bruce Lee" features a body and cap made from red celluloid with black streaks. The cap is topped with the immortal yin-yang symbol, representing balance. The cap and body are embraced by beautifully sculpted dragons; in the sterling silver version, their eyes are illuminated by rubies, in richer versions - other precious stones. The nib features Bruce Lee's profile in his famous move: foot and fist extended, in a leap.

This is undoubtedly an interesting and good idea for a business gift for those who like to surround themselves with extravagant items.
