The history of the company is inextricably linked with its founder, Hans Wilsdorf. In 1905, he established the company in London, specialising in the distribution of watches.
This visionary already foresaw that wristwatches would become very fashionable! And in this regard, he was not mistaken.
Rolex is a leader in many technologies used in the construction of these luxury products. A groundbreaking moment was the production of the first waterproof watch - the Oyster Perpetual.
The pursuit of extraordinary precision led Rolex in 1910 to significant success. The Watch Rating Centre in Bienne awarded the brand a chronometric certificate.
Four years later, in 1914, Kew Observatory awarded this Swiss company a class "A" precision certificate, which was reserved only for marine chronometers.
It was this date that made Rolex synonymous with precision!
Officially, the company moved to Geneva, where it was registered in 1920 as Montres Rolex S.A. Seven years later, something extraordinary for those times happened. Rolex decided to advertise its product in an innovative way.
For this purpose, the young Mercedes Gleitze swam with it in the channel for 10 hours. The watch remained in perfect condition.
To celebrate this fact, an advertisement was published on the front page of the Daily Mail, taking up the entire page. This event marked the birth of the Testimonee concept.
The independent winding mechanism is also a patent of the Swiss company, which today is at the heart of every automatic watch.
Rolex quite often tested its watches through athletes. Among others, in aviation, car racing, and eventually mountain expeditions. For those times, these were bold ideas.
But the brand knew what it was doing, which is why their products quickly gained worldwide fame, and the stylised crown logo won the hearts of high-class watch enthusiasts.
