Description
Paying tribute to II Teatro La Fenice - the legendary opera house in Venice, Montegrappa, Italy's most respected producer of exclusive writing instruments, has created a limited series of writing articles. The luxurious fountain pens and rollerball pens embody both aesthetic details that highlight this magnificent hall and the history it is filled with.
Even the Italian name - for "the Phoenix" - holds historical significance. It refers to the saga involving three fires that destroyed La Fenice. On each occasion, the Venetian community gathered to rebuild the opera house, ensuring it would be a venue completely on par with the greatest. The first opera house in Venice - San Benedetto Theatre - was razed by fire in 1774. Construction began in June 1790, according to the plans of Gianantonio Selva, and was completed in May 1792. That was when the opera was named "La Fenice," which, like the mythical Phoenix, rose from the ashes.
La Fenice quickly gained a reputation as the greatest opera house, hosting major productions of the early 19th century by composers such as Rossini, Donizetti, and other leading composers performed by the world's greatest voices. Two hundred plasterers, artists, carpenters, and other craftsmen were employed to recreate the atmosphere and style of the old theatre, reminiscent of the 19th century. The grand opening took place on December 14, 2003, and was celebrated with a concert of Beethoven, Wagner, and Stravinsky. The first opera performed in the "new" La Fenice was "La Traviata" in 2004.
Just as the architects worked on the old and authentic image of La Fenice, Montegrappa designed pens handcrafted from celluloid and precious metals, inspired by chandeliers, pillars, and beautiful rococo filigrees that adorned every interior space. Although each pen in the series is inherently rare, it is engraved with an individual serial number to identify its origin. Montegrappa has provided a full range of personalization. The flat cap top can be removed and adorned with the owner's monogram, and it can then be used as a wax seal to endorse stationery. Additionally, a small amount of wax has also been matched to the color of the celluloid. The fountain pen is housed in a box - Teatro La Fenice Sterling Montegrappa.
Exquisiteness, luxury, rich decoration - these are the connections intertwining the fates of Teatro La Fenice with Montegrappa. Someone who values elegance and style, and also pays attention to the smallest details, will surely be interested in the pen presented today.
