Description
Exceptional design combined with the highest quality raw materials embodies the brand The Chess Empire & Amritsar Ivory Works Company.
This enterprise is a Chess Empire, born from nearly 60 years of experience in the chess industry. The company is a leader in acquiring knowledge and maintaining perfection in design and craftsmanship, offering the highest quality chess products worldwide. Their valuable experience in chess production over the last three generations has enabled the brand to understand the selection of the finest quality wood and the appropriate equipment to produce the world's most elegant chess pieces. The manufacturer employs the most experienced master craftsmen with extensive knowledge of artisanal craftsmanship. A long period of learning has taught the brand to design the most luxurious chess sets imaginable.
Amritsar Ivory Works was established with the motive of producing ivory lamps, statues, and chess sets under the guidance of Shiv Dyal Sharma in 1962. After a few years, the brand was inherited by Mr Rajesh Sharma (son of Mr Shiv Dyal Sharma), who was an athlete and national volleyball player. With his understanding and enthusiasm for creating wonders in sports products, he began designing revolutionary models of chess products in wood following the complete ban on ivory use at a young age and started selling them to many exporters in India. After long struggles, Mr Rajesh Sharma connected with Mr Dennis Peterson, owner of Legend Products in the USA in 1991-1992. Mr Dennis was greatly impressed by the quality of the excellent craftsmanship of Amritsar Ivory Works under Mr Rajesh Sharma's leadership. Subsequently, both companies launched the Pioneer Series and Monarch Series in the chess market, which became a huge success due to the good sales of chess sets produced in Boxwood/Ebony and was a deservedly recognised step in the international chess industry market.
In 1994, Rajesh Sharma and Frank A. Camarrata, Jr (House of Staunton, USA) collaborated to make another revolution in the history of the chess industry. Frank A. Camarrata was deeply contemplative when dealing with many unsuccessful attempts to design the Collector Series chess sets made by many other chess manufacturers and suppliers. But when Rajesh Sharma showcased his skills in the collector's chess set design, Frank Camarrata was mesmerised by the result of excellence developed by Rajesh Sharma (Amritsar Ivory Works). HOS immediately began collaborating primarily with Amritsar Ivory Works. Rajesh Sharma introduced and executed hundreds of his creations in prestigious chess designs in various sizes and wood combinations, such as the Sultan Series, Sheffield Series, Empire Series, Centurion Series, Classic Staunton, Morphy Series, Player Series, Professional Series, and many others.
Mr Rajesh Sharma, due to certain health issues, retired from active business in 2008, and now his two sons, Gaurav Sharma and Rishi Sharma (the third generation of the family), have taken on the task of handling all business matters, including designing and creating the finest craftsmanship on the best-made chess products. They have introduced several designs, such as The Alexander Stallion, Victoria Castle Series, The Kohinoor Series, Saint John Series, Cambridge Series, and many others under the brand The Chess Empire. The Chess Empire also executes all reproductions for Jaques of London. (An established and globally renowned chess company in the chess industry).
The Chess Empire has introduced many authentic, self-created, and popular chess sets made from various exotic wood species, in different sizes and designs, developed by dedicated and experienced craftsmen under the guidance of the third generation with a promising approach to delivering only exceptional chess products to the international chess market. The brand has gained its reputation by selling high-quality chess sets, chess pieces, chess tables, travel chess sets, bone chess sets, artistic chess sets, luxury wooden chess sets, the golden prestige collection, draughts sets, chess accessories, and backgammon sets.
The Chess Empire offers the world's finest chess creations, authentically produced in a pure and healthy environment for their employees; where they provide free accommodation, electricity, clean water, medical facilities, and 24-hour assistance. Their master craftsmen are like family members, with many having worked with them for over 30 years, producing the world's best chess sets for all chess enthusiasts, where only skilled workers are employed and no children work in the workshop. The brand continuously delivers a diverse range of different Staunton chess sets, historical and timeless antique chess sets to all shops and chess companies in the USA, Europe, the UK, and also Australia, with excellent craftsmanship and design skills since 1962.
