The brand's history dates back to the early 20th century, founded in 1918 by Fritz Kennel, with Albert Schmenger joining in 1950. Eleven years later, the founder's grandson, Klaus Kennel, also joined the brand, and in 1995, the current managing partner and creative director Andreas Klautzsch. The beginning of the 21st century saw the opening of two footwear factories in Hungary, as well as the first concept store. According to data presented by the manufacturer, the brand currently employs about 570 people, has over 1000 sales points in more than 40 countries worldwide, including 22 flagship stores.
