High-class GOLD rollerball pen Yuri Gagarin Montegrappa

Montegrappa proudly honoured one of the greatest heroes of the 20th century by creating a limited edition of pens on the 50th anniversary of his historic space flight - Yuri Gagarin. Since 1912, Montegrappa has been producing high-quality writing instruments in the historic building in Bassano del Grappa, North East Italy. This groundbreaking and most exciting period in human history, showcasing the continuous desire for exploration, became an inspiration for the Italian manufacturer.

Yuri Gagarin was born on 9 March 1934 in Klushino, Russia. Gagarin was a Soviet Air Force pilot who, in 1960, after completing the selection process, was chosen from 19 other pilots for the Soviet space programme. He became the first human to travel into space.

The original intention of the creators was for the pen to present the first part of the Cosmopolitan collection, however, the significant importance of Yuri Gagarin's 50th anniversary prompted the Italian manufacturer to create a special limited edition version. The Montegrappa Yuri Gagarin pen joins other renowned awards and honours he received, including a series of commemorative rouble coins issued by the USSR for the 20th, 30th, and 40th anniversaries, and the title of Hero of the Soviet Union after the renaming of the town of Gzhatsk to Gagarin in 1968.

The master craftsmen at Montegrappa engraved the barrel with a bas-relief image of Yuri Gagarin, bordered by an interplanetary motif, with the USSR insignia on the cap. The clip is equipped with a rotating ball to facilitate easy application and removal from the pocket. It is surrounded by a reproduction of the Moscow Monument to Yuri Gagarin. The pen features a piston filling system, ensuring ink flow to the two-tone 18K gold nib with an ebonite feeder. Both the rollerball and fountain pens are housed in stylish wooden presentation boxes along with ink. The lid of the box is adorned with a metal plaque engraved with Yuri Gagarin's image and a commemorative note in Cyrillic.

To mark 50 years since Yuri Gagarin's historic space flight in 1961, Montegrappa released the Yuri Gagarin pens in a limited edition consisting of: 1961 silver fountain pens, 1961 silver rollerball pens, 50 18K gold fountain pens, 50 18K gold rollerball pens.
