It is striking, but for many years scholars believed that the Mayan Calendar predicted the end of the world on 21 December 2012. Whatever the assumption, it turns out there is still time to enjoy the exclusive Montegrappa Limited Series dedicated to the Mayan calendar. Considering the time constraints that inspired Montegrappa, the pen is - naturally and truly - a limited collection.
On the surface of the decorated pen, distinguishing it from others, are engraved images of Mayan gods and patterns reflecting Mayan architecture. The pen clip itself is very expressive - a sword used by Mayan priests offering their sacrifices to the gods. All fountain pens in the collection are equipped with a built-in piston filling mechanism by Montegrappa. The cap activation, which triggers the piston, provides the same sensitivity of winding as the movement of a mechanical watch. The nibs are made of 18-carat gold and a glorious ebonite feeder. Most of the pen's components are decorated using the "lost wax" technique, meticulously finished by hand. The cap and body in the gold version of the pens are also hand-engraved.
Available in silver or solid 18K gold, both versions are finished with transparent enamel and an innovative full bronze version. Created by the Mayans with 360 days, divided into 18 months of 20 days each, the silver and bronze versions will be offered in limited editions of just 360 fountain pens and 360 rollerballs. The Gold version will include only 20 fountain pens and 20 rollerballs. The Mayan Calendar collection also includes cufflinks in a limited edition of 360 in silver, 360 in bronze, and 20 in solid 18K gold.
