The times we live in are marked by increased consumption. Therefore, the items we use daily hold no value for us other than their utility. Each year, we often neglect the attention they deserve, replacing them with newer models.
The philosophy of Berti Knives, a manufacturer of exclusive knives for various uses, stands in contrast to this state of affairs. Founded in 1895 by David Berti, this family-run workshop seems completely detached from the trends that have prevailed worldwide throughout its years of operation. Its most important value is a commitment to tradition, which is now being upheld by the fourth generation of these experienced craftsmen.
The owners firmly reject the idea of mass production by random labour, which they believe would lead to the loss of identity of the products offered. For this reason, the work philosophy of their workshop places exceptional emphasis on the employed personnel. However, this does not mean that this Italian family is closed to any changes. They are very much welcome, provided they introduce elements that do not conflict with the existing vision and can withstand long-term quality tests.
Unlike others, the various stages of knife production are not handled by specialised sections of craftsmen, but are often carried out from start to finish by the same person. Thanks to this practice, each blade is completely unique.
The production uses the highest quality materials - the blades are made of steel, and the handles from materials such as buffalo, bison, deer horns, or 'bosso' wood.
The brand owners suggest that their knives, although intended for everyday use, should be treated with due respect, which guarantees their longevity. Each one is, after all, a small, unique artefact.
